GYCT Safeguarding Statement

  • 1.1 Great Yarmouth Community Trust (GYCT) places the highest importance on keeping children safe and protected from harm.
  • 1.2 This means that GYCT will always work to:
    • Protect children from maltreatment;
    • Prevent impairment to the health or development of children;
    • Ensure that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
    • Take action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
  • 1.3 Through our Child Protection Policy GYCT will give clear direction to staff, volunteers, visitors, parents and carers about the expected behaviour and our legal responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults across the Trust.
  • 1.4 Our policy applies to:
    • All children visiting a GYCT operated building or accessing a GYCT service and their parents or carers;
    • Everyone employed by GYCT – including paid staff and consultants;
    • Everyone working for another organisation in a GYCT operated building or services – including regular and occasional contractors, and colleagues from another organisation;
    • All volunteers within GYCT – including individuals on student placements or work experience;
    • All adult visitors to GYCT operated buildings or services.
  • 1.5 Everyone employed by or volunteering with Great Yarmouth Community Trust will be subject to a safer recruitment process and an enhanced DBS check for those whose roles require they have regular unsupervised access to children within a regulated activity.
  • 1.6 If you have a concern about an employee or volunteer of GYCT this should be raised in line with the GYCT Complaints Policy. Allegations made against employees or volunteers of the Trust will be dealt with following the Norfolk Safeguarding Children Board protocols.
  • 1.7 Where staff or volunteers have a concern that a child is not safe there is a duty to report this to the authorities. Any decision to report a safeguarding concern will be shared with parents or carers provided it would not increase the likelihood of harm to the child.
  • 1.8 We will co-operate fully in multi-agency working to ensure the best outcomes for children.
  • 1.9 We will place our Child Protection Policy on GYCT websites and place a copy of this Safeguarding Statement in all reception or public areas of GYCT buildings.
  • 1.10 In preparing our Child Protection Policy we have taken account of the statutory framework including the Children Act (2004) and Keeping Children Safe in Education (2016) along with the current guidance provided by Norfolk Safeguarding Children Board (NSCB) and Ofsted (2016).
