Our Sensory Room is a chill-out space for anybody who may be feeling a little overwhelmed. It is a one-to-one space which minimises auditory and visual distractions, helping children with vision impairment or speech and language delay to focus on developing their skills.
The contents of the room can be changed around/adapted to meet each child’s needs. The lights may be left on or turned off. It is a neutral space that is not over-stimulating. It can be a nice place to sit with a parent if having a bad day and just needing to offload a little.
The room contains a bubble tube, with changing colours, lights and swimming fish. It also has a feather tube, which can be operated by a child using a foot or a hand. When the pressure is off the feathers start to die down and this can help with de-escalation. The lights are black, making any glow-in-the-dark equipment light up. Other equipment includes a light box, an infinity tunnel, a fibre optic waterfall and baskets containing different objects - which may be put on the light box or manipulated (ie. cause and effect toys).
