About Horatio House

About

Horatio House was set up to provide solutions for pupils whose needs are difficult to accomodate, or which couldn’t be met in mainstream education. They are often vulnerable to poor attendance, disaffection, fixed term or permanent exclusion.

We offer a dynamic and comprehensive curriculum, supporting young people to believe in themselves and enabling them to reach their potential.

We have long offered a choice of mechanics, graphic design or art, alongside up to GCSE (or equivalent) Maths, English Language and ICT. As a school we are expanding that to incorporate science, humanities and PE. We deliver a range of PSHE topics and accredit this learning using a variety of unit and full awards. Pupils leave us with a range of qualifications and go on to college, a job or an apprenticeship.

We also offer:

  • an Assessment Centre service to Children’s Services Admissions and Great Yarmouth schools, supporting a DfE approved Fair Access Protocol
  • the outreach services of a behaviour support mentor, to support vulnerable pupils in their mainstream school setting
  • facilities available for community use

In September 2015 Horatio House, together with sister company Nexus Engineering, joined the family of services provided by the Great Yarmouth Community Trust.

In 2016 it became Horatio House Independent School.

Case Studies

Scott

15/10/2014

Scott began on the Options East programme in September 2012. His school were worried about continuous incidents of disruption, refusal to follow instructions, rudeness and truanting lessons. Scott also had a history of not completing his work, which resulted from Scott walking out of lessons. Scott found English an ongoing challenge and would often refuse to engage in lessons. He displayed silly behaviour resulting in him spending time in the referral room at his school.
