Alternative Provision

There are many young people who find that mainstream education doesn’t meet their needs.

They require a different setting and another way of learning to achieve, restore and build confidence, and be equipped with the skills, qualifications and self-esteem to succeed in college, work or an apprenticeship.

We have developed our curriculum and programmes with these different demands in mind, for young people to gain the most from their experience with us.

Through excellent partnership working there is comprehensive access to external agencies.

  • All young people have a guidance adviser, who is available for face to face support in securing their post 16 route
  • School Nurse for advice on any medical concerns
  • Matthew Project for advice on lifestyle choices
  • MAP (Mancroft Advice Project) who facilitate a youth action group
  • Youth Advisory Board ( one of its four youth action groups is based in Horatio House)
  • Police SNT (Safer Neighbourhood Team) who deliver a range of talks and discussions on all aspects of the law and build positive relations with young people
  • GFS Platform delivering workshops on issues that particularly support young women
  • We work as part of the team around the family for all pupils supported by a Family Support Plan
  • We are fully involved for all pupils supported by Early Help, Common Assessment Framework (CAF) or Family Support Plan (FSP), YOT, Children in Need or Safeguarding teams

Case Studies

Scott

15/10/2014

Scott began on the Options East programme in September 2012. His school were worried about continuous incidents of disruption, refusal to follow instructions, rudeness and truanting lessons. Scott also had a history of not completing his work, which resulted from Scott walking out of lessons. Scott found English an ongoing challenge and would often refuse to engage in lessons. He displayed silly behaviour resulting in him spending time in the referral room at his school.
