Gifted and Talented Support
Able, Gifted & Talented describes children and young people with an ability to develop to a level significantly ahead of their year group (or with the potential to develop those abilities).
An AG&T Mentor supports high level of challenge for pupils and provides opportunities for them to discover and develop their talents, to widen their horizons and raise the level of their aspirations.
An AG&T Mentor works with the school’s AG&T co-ordinator or lead teacher to identify projects and approaches to provide enrichment, extension and challenge, either in the classroom, working alongside the class teacher or separately with small groups or 1-1. Skills like leadership, decision making and organisation are also taken into account when providing for AG&T.
Successful past enrichment projects and programmes which have raised motivation, self-esteem and have challenged AG&T pupils are:
- Latin through the Minimus programme of study
- Creative writing
- Visual arts
- Thinking skills
- Philosophy 4 Children
- Slam poetry
- Social skills & how we learn through playing the ukulele
- Gardening project embracing science, environmental issues, healthy eating, music & art
