Review of the 2017 Summer Holiday Programme

Special Moments ... Summer 2017

As all good things must, summer is coming to an end. The schools are back and our Autumn Programme is already underway. But we thought we'd take a few moments to enjoy some of this summer's highlights.

The programme opened with a special Teddy Bear's Picnic in the Seagulls garden, run by our dedicated Play Rangers volunteers, giving children and parents the chance to enjoy 'time out' relaxing in an oasis that is both beautiful and safe.

This was followed by everyone's favourite, Make it Messy, a week of getting muddy and messy .. and covered in paint, shaving foam, gloop, cornflakes and slimey pasta!

Next we travelled to the seaside, to dig tunnels, build sandcastles and play games in the sand. The more intrepid battled barefoot through the bracing breeze and sharp pebbles for a paddle in the sea. The stalwarts were rewarded with some buried treasure on their return!

The third week saw us at the 'Jungle Boogie', singing, dancing and making music, as well as dipping into arts and crafts and other animal activities. Like many of the summer activities, Jungle Boogie took place at venues in Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and Hopton, so we managed to see lots of you there.

Week 4 was Teddy Bear's Picnics, a time for children to enjoy arts, crafts, games and special outdoor activities and for parents to chill out with other parents .. and teddies ... over a picnic!

Circus Week was the perfect finale, with events for everyone to join in at Magdalen Square and St George's Park. The Circus Allstars dropped by to help brush up our circus skills .. teaching us to spin plates, diablos and hula hoops, walk on stilts and walk the tightrope! There were lots of other favourite activities there too .. including arts and crafts, balloon modelling and music sessions. The Time & Tide Museum came along - and the Library Bus too!

We're sad that summer's over, but our Autumn Programme is out and you won't be disappointed! It's grown by 4 pages and contains even more things to keep you busy during the colder months, run by our Children's Centres, your local libraries - and other parents in the community.
